North Carolinians Come Together to Help Family in Need and Decry Bank of America Greed
Sanchez family trying to keep the home they need to care for special needs child
Charlotte, NC – Concerned citizens, housing activists and families will assemble in Bank of America Plaza tomorrow at noon to protest the treatment of the Sanchez family by Bank of America and call for President Obama and our members of Congress to fashion a comprehensive solution to the underwater mortgage and foreclosure crisis.
For over a decade, Silvia and Gustavo Sanchez have lived with their three children in their Charlotte home. Their daughter Jessica has spina bifida, a birth defect that makes her unable to walk. Because of this she is confined to a wheelchair and the Sanchez family has spent the last 10 years retrofitting their home to make it livable for their daughter, including adding ramps and wider doorways.
Unfortunately, Mr. Sanchez lost his job when the economy collapsed, and has been struggling to make ends meet. Now the Sanchez family is facing foreclosure on their home.
“For our daughter’s sake, we need to keep our home,” said Silvia Sanchez, “Our daughter suffers from constant pain and this is her home. We can’t just move anywhere; she needs special accommodations. We do not understand why we cannot get help.”
Despite repeated requests, Bank of America has been unwilling to offer them assistance even though the family has been in their home since 2000.
